Accord country programs on worker health and safety
Signatories are committed to continuing health and safety programs in Bangladesh and starting Accord programs in other garment-producing countries.
The joint efforts of brands, trade unions, factories, and workers build upon the safety work undertaken by the Bangladesh Accord Agreements of 2013 and 2018. Signatories continue their commitment to promoting safer garment and textile factories in Bangladesh through the RMG Sustainability Council (RSC) and remain committed to ensuring safe workplaces at over 1400 factories in Bangladesh.
In December 2022, the signatories decided to establish a new workplace safety program in Pakistan for an initial term of 3 years, starting in 2023. The Pakistan Accord includes all key International Accord features: independent safety inspections, monitoring and supporting remediation, Safety Committee training and worker safety awareness program, an independent complaints mechanism, a commitment to broad transparency, and local capacity-building to enhance a culture of health and safety in the industry.
Signatories to the International Accord are exploring new health and safety programs in other countries beyond Bangladesh and Pakistan, based on ongoing research by the Accord Secretariat. These studies include in-depth interviews, signatory surveys, and local stakeholder consultations.
Share your perspective on the feasibility of new workplace safety programs by participating in our feasibility studies as a brand or retailer, manufacturer, government department, worker rights organisation, or researcher.
